Meet Our Staff
Pastor Scott is the Lead Pastor of New Hope Free Methodist Church. He and his wife live in the historic Maplewood Park neighborhood of the City of Rochester. They have five children, and a new daughter-in-law as of May 2019. Scott has been involved in urban and youth ministry since his college days, including serving for seven years at the Olive Branch Mission in Chicago. A sports enthusiast who stays active coaching his kids in multiple programs, he also enjoys hiking and kayaking. Pastor Scott has been on staff with New Hope for several years serving in various roles including Treasurer, Youth Pastor, Board Member, Life Group Leader, and Executive Pastor. In stepping into full time pastoring he shared: “I believe the many seasons of life prepare us for other seasons in which God changes our course of service and opens new opportunities to partner with Him in the work that He is doing all around us. I am humbled and excited to lead such a dedicated and caring community of people and I believe that the Lord is going to use us all together to impact our community and our world in ways we cannot comprehend now.”

Tanya Perkins, Executive Assistant and Youth Coordinator
Tanya took over as New Hope’s Executive Assistant and youth coordinator in the fall of 2019. She brings a wealth of energy, talent, skill and passion for Christ’s church into these new roles. She will oversee the administration of the church, keep track of the calendar, supplies, building activities, and run the church office. She will also help coordinate the youth group and bible quizzing ministry providing for integration in planning and cross-promotion as well as organizational planning and oversite. Tanya lives in North Chili, NY with her three children. One son (a twin) is serving in the military and will transition to college after basic training, while the other son is full time at Roberts Wesleyan College. Her daughter is a junior in high school.
Assistant Pastor of Cultural Diversity and Integration
In January of 2019, New Hope officially hired Olivier Kabaya as our Executive Assistant for Administration and Building. He is now transitioning as an Local Ministerial Candidate in the Free Methodist Church to serve as a part-time pastor for New Hope. His new role will be to encourage full integration among our various ethnic communities into church events and activities while helping to promote our valued diversity and learn from each other. Olivier transplanted to Rochester from Rwanda five years ago, shortly after marrying his bride, Princesse Nabintu-Kabaya. Together, they have three beautiful children, Benito, Celeste, and Daniel and one more in the oven. Olivier has training and experience in public administration, as well as celebrated gifts in leadership, spiritual mentorship, youth, and community empowerment/transformation.
Dr. Andrew Cashner, Director of Worship and Creative Arts
Dr. Cashner has been attending New Hope for 2 years. His full time job is as a Professor of Music History at the University of Rochester. He lives in the 19th Ward with his wife and two children where they settled after migrating from California after settling on his job at UR. He has been a life long musician, and grew up playing music in the church. He has a passion for bringing clarity and purpose to worship, not just in song but in cultivating a whole experience that connects people to God. His skills are many, his passion strong, and his desire to help people gain deeper awareness of God and enjoy His triune presence allows all of New Hope to worship with whole-hearted joy.
